Transforming Trash is an educational design program where young Detroiters will grow their design skills and transform community plastic waste into art.

Beginning July 2022, Kids aged 4-18 will be to participate in engaging design activities located at The Garage - an art studio in the North End Neighborhood (7615 Oakland Ave, Detroit, MI 48211) This Knight Art Challenge awarded project is facilitated by Simon Anton and Olivia Holt, members of the experimental design studio Thing Thing.

We will support young designers as they learn the ins and outs of plastic recycling - from sorting bottles by color to designing patterns and colorways, filling molds and melting the plastic into new things. Students will be given the opportunity and training to make a custom piece of furniture for themselves as well as designing public art for a community park.
